Vernon fertilizer company hit with $24,000 WorkSafeBC fine

A Vernon agriculture company has been fined $24,500 for ignoring a WorkSafeBC order.

According to a recently published March 10 penalty notice, Bluesky Organics Corp. was issued a $24,560 fine for failing to comply with a WorkSafeBC order even though WorkSafeBC followed up with the company on multiple occasions.

What the order was isn't clear as the penalty notice is remarkably vague on what took place and only says it issued an order related to a "worker's prohibited action complaint."

While WorkSafeBC handed out a hefty fine to the fertilizer manufacturer the notice does not explain what the "worker's prohibited action complaint" was or give any indication of what happened or when.

WorkSafe BC only says after "multiple follow-up communications" Bluesky Organics Corp. did not comply.

"The firm failed to comply with a WorkSafeBC order," the notice says.

No other details are given in the penalty notice.
