PENTICTON - Penticton RCMP are investigating a residential break-in that occurred while the resident was home.

Penticton RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Don Wrigglesworth says police received a call yesterday, June 21, from a resident in the 800 block of Fairview Road around 3:30 a.m.

The resident told police she woke to a noise and found a person wearing dark clothing in the living room. The person grabbed her purse and ran out the patio door which had been left unlocked.

Another break and enter overnight on June 20 occurred in the 2300 block of Mackenzie Street.

An unlocked window on a garage was entered and numerous food items and a pellet gun were taken. A vehicle in the garage had also been tampered with in an effort to steal it.

Forensic evidence obtained at the scene that links the crime to an individual known to police, Wrigglesworth says. The man, who was identified through a neighbour’s security video, had already been arrested on other unrelated matters.

Police found items from the Mackenzie Street break and enter on the man, including beer, eggs and yogurt.

The suspect is currently in custody.
