More rain and lightning possible for Kamloops today

KAMLOOPS – The conditions are just right for more thunderstorms in Kamloops today.

Environment Canada has issued a severe thunderstorm watch for the South Thompson today, June 22, including the City of Kamloops. A watch was in place for the region yesterday as well.

Forecasters say the air mass over the B.C. Interior today remains unstable and slow moving thunderstorms could develop this afternoon.

The storms have the potential to drop between 15 and 24 mm of rain in one hour and produce wind gusts up to 80 km/h, Environment Canada says.

The severe thunderstorm watch points out strong wind gust can toss loose objects, damage weak buildings, break branches off trees and overturn large vehicles. Hail is also possible in thunderstorms and heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads.
